SHORT SUMMARY OF PROGRAMInsight, Stones and Bones, Research in the Biological Sciences, Rocky Mountain Ecology, and Traveling Academy are a carefully curated selection of programs whose courses are open only to high school students. These intensive 3 or 4-week courses are taught at the college level and kept small, offering both experiential and UChicago seminar-style learning.

High school students may also enroll in undergraduate courses offered each summer by the University in over 20 subject areas. You will study alongside University of Chicago undergraduates, enrolling in the same courses they use to earn their degrees. Chicago Public Schools students are encouraged to apply through the Summer Bridge program.

SHORT SUMMARY OF PROGRAMThe embARC program is comprised of four components that together provide a comprehensive framework and multi-disciplinary approach to "placemaking."
  • Architecture and Urban Design Studio, in which instruction on freehand sketching, drafting, model building and digital representation will teach students how to conceptualize and communicate two and three-dimensional design ideas
  • Sustainable Planning Workshop, where students will engage as genuine stakeholders and participants in a community change process by developing solutions to an authentic urban planning question
  • Lecture Series, in which CED faculty and professionals in the field of environmental design will introduce students to the history and theory behind current ideas in the realms of urban design, community development and sustainable city planning
  • Design-Build, where students will work alongside trained shop staff to build full-sized structures for the benefit of a local non-profit community partner
Students who fulfill the course requirements will receive one Berkeley credit and an official UC Berkeley transcript upon course completion.

Camp Cardiac, run by local medical students in 16 cities nationwide, serves as an ideal introduction for any high school student interested in exploring a career in medicine.

With a focus on both education and real world experience, Camp Cardiac provides students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the medical field.  In addition, this 1-week summer day camp provides a foundation for heart healthy living with an emphasis on both diet and exercise.  Although Camp Cardiac's primary focus is on care and maintenance of the heart, it provides an excellent starting point for careers in all fields of medicine.

Students take two courses of their choice over the span of four weeks. As part of the program, students both participate in admissions and career workshops and explore New York through class trips and excursions.  

LIBERAL ARTS INTENSIVE

For one week, students take one course of their choice in the morning.  Afternoons are free for students to explore what the city has to offer!

YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Students delve into gender issues, social change, and leadership in this intensive one week program. Comprised of morning lectures and afternoon workshops, students develop a deeper understanding of leadership through a feminist lens.

DANCE IN THE CITY

National Geographic on CampusBased on University of Colorado Boulder’s campus, delve into important global challenges and build skills in science, leadership, and storytelling to effect positive change in your local community. Throughout the program, you’ll participate in stimulating seminars, hands-on workshops, and active excursions. Develop a capstone project to raise awareness about the issues you’ve encountered and inspire action.
